Reading Aloud for the Class

Lewis Carter is in the final year of his degree in English Language and Literature.

I’m the type to stammer,

stutter,

trip on consonants,

mutter,

choke on vowels,

wheeze out words,

cough up clauses,

take harsh breaths

in all the

               wrong places,

and race through the pages

in a rapid ramble of rough

half-pronounced sounds

pacing the plot as frantic

answers to quick-fire questions

leaving the listener stranded

on page five while I

approach chapter five

still stammering

stuttering

choking

wheezing

muttering;

breezing through

your favourite Dickens classic

with all the

                  air of a fish

drowning on dry land.

But yeah,

if you’d like,

I’d be happy to read aloud.
