Why study this course?

The aim of the course is to enable students to develop insights into the world of counselling through an introduction to the three main schools of counselling.

The cohort group provides the arena within which awareness is gained of self and other participants.

This introduction programme will assist students to acquire knowledge and understanding to differentiate between therapeutic counselling and other forms of helping.

 

Programme Structure:

Module SO6701 Foundation Course in Counselling

(Develops basic knowledge of counselling theory and practice)

The course is assessed through a recording of a practice session and written critique of the session with another member of the cohort group. There are no formal exams on the programme.

The programme is for those who would like to know more about counselling and how using counselling skills could enhance their present role.

The programme can also be used as part of the academic requirements for entry on the MA in Clinical Counselling.

No prior qualifications in counselling are necessary for entry onto the foundation programme; only an interest in this field of study.

If the intention is to go on to further study in counselling then a first degree or equivalent is required.
