The Chester Business Masters is designed specifically to help well motivated graduates to gain or enhance the relevant knowledge and skills that will significantly improve their employability. Across the globe organisations are currently facing unprecedented change and uncertainty in a difficult economic climate. This has led to a growing need for more sophisticated business techniques and the development of advanced analytical, evaluative and consultative skills. This new Business Master's programme addresses these requirements and will equip individuals with a range of highly marketable and up to date management skills.

Programme Structure

Students will spend two periods of 20 weeks work placement within an organisation, during which time they will develop a range of transferable skills and gain practical experience, while completing a defined consultancy project for the organisation.

While on placement, students will receive an agreed placement payment/consultancy fee, but more importantly, will gain invaluable work experience and insights into the types of organisation they might like to work for. The placement will give individuals the opportunity to showcase skills, which may lead to an offer of employment in the future. Of course, throughout the programme, students will also be working towards acquiring the Masters in Business qualification, which operates through Chester's renowned work-based learning framework.

Assessment

Teaching will take place in two intensive blocks, each of around four weeks. Tutorial groups will be small and supported by a Virtual Learning Environment, as well as your Personal Academic Tutor. Tutorials are highly interactive and students will engage in individual and team learning tasks. Assessment for each taught module will comprise of coursework, the major components of which will be submission of two consultancy project reports, based upon the two extended work placements.

Careers

This programme will enhance prospects when applying for senior positions in a variety of organsiations. Having studied a range of sophisticated business techniques and developed advanced analytical, evaluative and consultative skills, individuals will graduate with a range of highly marketable and up to date techniques. In addition, the placements will allow for the opportunity to showcase these skills, which may lead to an offer of employment in the future.

Some students have progressed their study at Chester through our Doctorate in Business Administration or Doctorate in Professional Studies.

Entry Requirements

Entrants are expected to have a good first degree, minimum first or second class honours. The degree qualification need not necessarily be in a business related subject area, but applicants will need to demonstrate very sound business acumen which will be judged via completed application forms. Shortlisted candidates will also have to pass an interview panel. In essence, we are looking for individuals who demonstrate strong entrepreneurial skills, especially those who are able to function effectively and quickly in a work setting. In exceptional circumstances, applicants who lack the normal entry degree qualification may be considered, but only where they are able to demonstrate outstanding entrepreneurial business skills.

All applicants must be extremely articulate both in written and spoken English.
