The MA in Crime and Justice is a flexible course incorporating lectures, seminars, small group work and workshops. The course provides an opportunity to study for an MA Degree, a Postgraduate Diplioma or a Postgraduate Certificate.

Programme Structure:

The programme includes a combination of core and option modules as well as a dissertation on a topic of the student's choice.

Core modules include:

  • Understanding Justice
  • Delivering Justice
  • Professional and Research Skills
  • Quantitative Criminological Research

Option modules may include:

  • Victims of Crime
  • Gender, Crime and Justice
  • Independent Study (Crime & Justice

Assessments vary for each module but normally require coursework totalling approx 5,000 words or equivalent (e.g. exam, presentations, practical exercises, etc). In order to receive an MA in Crime and Justice, students must also submit a 15,000 word dissertation on a topic of their choice.

Career opportunities include criminal justice agencies, Home Office, policy and planning, research careers, doctoral level research, criminological consultancy.

A minimum of a second class honours degree, or the equivalent, in an appropriate discipline(e.g. Social Sciences, Law).

Credit exemption may be given for appropriate certificated or experiential learning undertaken or completed within the previous five years (in line with the University of Chester's policy on APCL/APEL).

Admission to the programme is subject to written application, an acceptable entry qualification profile, an interview and evidence of written work.
