Did you know?

Two former University of Chester Cardiovascular Rehabilitation (CVR) students were instrumental in ensuring that India’s Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, successfully recovered from heart bypass surgery.

 

Following the Prime Minister’s heart attack, the Asian Heart Institute (AHI) surgeons were tasked with performing the operation, while Dr Contractor (Head of Cardiac Rehabilitation at AHI & local Lead Tutor) and his team (including two former Chester CVR students) were responsible for Dr Singh’s rehabilitation programme.

Taught Modular Programme

The PG Certificate course requires the study of three eight week modules:

1 - Cardiovascular Disease, Risk Factors, Investigations and Treatment.

2 - Cardiovascular Anatomy and Exercise Physiology

3 - Clinical Exercise Testing and Prescription

Each module involves:

  • 25 hours intensive course (Friday evening, Saturday, Sunday, Monday evening) in contact with Chester (UK)/AHI faculty
  • 15 hours practical activities, work experience, support tutorials, etc (3 x alternate Saturdays mid-module) at AHI Mumbai with AHI Faculty
  • 160 hours directed self-study (preparation of a 5000-word written assignment)
  • Date for Intensive Courses

Module 1: September 2009

Module 2: November 2009

Module 3: January 2010

Each taught module is assessed by a 5,000 word written assignment or its equivalent. There are no formal examinations.

The course was designed: (i) to provide postgraduate education and training opportunities for health professionals; and (ii) to provide opportunities for those aspiring to work in this high profile field.
