The Chester DBA aims to facilitate the generation of original knowledge within organisations, conferring an academic award on those who have made a significant contribution to the knowledge base of their organisation.

Programme Structure

The course falls into two distinctive parts as shown in the structure diagram.

Level 7 Masters

  • Personal & Professional Review Provides an opportunity to examine your professional trajectory in the context of a reflection of your personal beliefs, aspirations and learning preferences.
  • Research Methods for work based learning explores a range of workplace investigative methodologies (exemptions may be granted for those with a Masters level equivalent or qualification).
  • Negotiated Experiential Learning is the opportunity to undertake a workplace project implementing the methodologies learned (exemptions may be granted for those with a Masters level equivalent or qualification)

Level 8 Doctoral

  • Business Research Methods facilitates the development of a detailed proposal for the major research project, developing qualitative and quantative methodologies more deeply.
  • Action Learning examines topical international issues, promoting the development of original and critical reflection.
  • Major Research Project is a substantial and original contribution to organisational and professional knowledge.

 

What qualifications are on offer?

  • The programme is divided into two stages with students commencing their studies at Master's level. On completion of this stage, successful students can exit with a Master's in Professional Studies.
  • Students who continue on to doctoral level study and successfully complete this stage of the programme will be awarded a Doctorate in Professional Studies.

This will be negotiated with the tutor but generally involves a portfolio and written assignments, followed by a research project. There are no written examinations.

Doctoral study is the pinnacle of academic achievement and will appeal to senior practitioners of any field who wish to attain recognition of their status.

Entrants will normally have a Masters qualification from a recognised University, together with a minimum of five years' experience in a position of substantial responsibility Candidates would normally be interviewed prior to acceptance on the course.
