Why study this course?

The Master of Science degree at Chester Business School is designed to provide both recent graduates and those wishing to develop management careers with a contemporary and sophisticated understanding of the subject area.

The HRM pathway will enable participants to develop a breadth and depth of understanding of contemporary HR issues to enable students to become successful HR practitioners at both an operational and a strategic level. The pathway closely mirrors the Professional Standards of the UK Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development which is the world's leading body of HR professionals.

Students will thus gain understanding of the strategic contribution of HRM to achieving sustainable competitive advantage for the corporation, the comparative legal contexts of employment, resourcing and performance management, reward and recognition, learning and development and employee relations.

Students studying on this HR pathway will be enabled to develop the skills required by HR practitioners such as the ability to interview for selection and to enhance performance, the ability to resolve employment disputes and the competences associated with negotiating collective employment matters.

The pathway will build upon the generic understandings of business and management developed during the core stage of the programme and will emphasise the international and cross cultural issues that are of particular significance in the management of people for high performance working in the contemporary global organisation.
