The University aims to offer a flexible and dynamic programme that prepares students to develop the qualities necessary to be effective within their own specialist area of practice. 

This Postgraduate Certificate will appeal to students from a wide variety of backgrounds and workplaces, such as: medical doctors employed in communicable disease prevention, health protection and associated specialities; occupational health nurses; general practice nurses; school health advisors; community nurses; prison officers; environmental health officers; midwives; paediatric nurses; allied health professionals; nursing home staff ; and specialist staff already working in communicable disease associated roles, health improvement and wellbeing, health promotion, public health or health protection.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Communicable Diseases has been developed for a range of professionals who are engaged in the prevention of and protection against communicable diseases. It has been designed to enable students to explore the depth and complexities of the subject through the development of advanced knowledge and practice.

 

Features:

The Postgraduate Certificate in Communicable Diseases consists of three core modules of study, led by academics and clinicians with subject expertise, so that teaching is underpinned by contemporaneous research and up-to-date clinical knowledge.

This programme is delivered at the Riverside Campus in Chester.

Programme Structure:

All modules equate to 20 credits at Masters level, amounting to 60 credits at Masters level on completion of the Certificate.

  • Immunisation and Vaccine Preventable Diseases
  • Communicable Diseases

A blended approach to learning has been developed to support all modules, to include supporting materials located on the University intranet.

Students will be exposed to a variety of assessment methods designed to ensure that the outcomes and level of the modules are measured in a fair and transparent manner. In this programme the following methods are used: written assignments, literature reviews, cumulative portfolio, and unseen short answer exam.

Students undertaking this programme may increase their employability where additional knowledge in the prevention of and protection against communicable diseases is a desirable or an essential requirement.
