Why study this programme?

Although sexual health remains one of the smaller specialities within health, it is essential that practitioners and other professionals working within this field have the opportunity to further their knowledge and expertise in this highly sensitive and important area of health provision. It is therefore essential that there are practitioners/professionals who have the knowledge, skills and vision to develop sexual health services/initiatives.

This programme fits well with both the Government and the NHS North West Strategic Health Authority agenda for ensuring that sexual health staff and other allied professionals provide a high quality service within this most intimate and personal area of health.

This programme is delivered at the Riverside Campus in Chester.

Programme Structure

 

There are three core modules:

  • Human Sexuality
  • Provision of Sexual and Reproductive Health
  • Negotiated study in Sexual and Reproductive Health


Each module attracts 20 credits at Level M. Successful completion of all three modules merits the award of -

  • Postgraduate Certificate (60 credits at level M).

Students who wish to study further may complete an option module and modules in Research Methods and Leadership to gain -

  • Postgraduate Diploma (120 credits at level M).

Students who wish to obtain a full Master's degree -

  • will also complete a Dissertation (180 credits at level M).

Assessment of theory includes essays, reports presentations and portfolios of learning.

This course is appropriate for those working within this area of health care.

  • Applicants should be working in this field, and normally would be expected to have a first degree.
  • For those applicants who do not have a degree a portfolio of evidence will be required.
  • Applicants should normally have completed a research methods module at Level 6.
