Our MSc in Professional Nursing programme is designed for nurses who qualified overseas, and who wish to gain a UK Masters degree in Professional Nursing. We aim to build on practitioner's existing experience to enable them to acquire advanced understanding, knowledge and skills to deliver, manage and develop nursing practice.
Whilst undertaking this Masters programme you will be given the opportunity to complete the Overseas Nurses Programme enabling you to register on the NMC professional register and improving your global employability in health and social-care settings.
Three modules will be taught at M/s. S.N.R. Charitable Trust in Coimbatore and the remaining modules will be delivered at University of Chester Riverside campus, based in the heart of the historic city of Chester. The campus is set on the River Dee and is in easy reach of the bustling city centre, providing excellent transport links to the surrounding suburbs.
As a students of the University of Chester you will have extensive resources made available to you including 24 hour library access, International Department, International Welfare Officer , English language classes and study support to name but a few.
Duration of Study
This Masters in Professional Nursing programme takes eighteen months to complete on a full time basis.

Course Fee Structure
Total Fee for the cohort starting in January 2012 is £7000. £1500 for the PGCert in Coimbatore and £5500 for the PGDip and Dissertation.The £3,500 would be non-refundable - unless there are exceptional circumstances as per University published guidelines (e.g. visa refusals) to be paid prior to the 23/01/2012 start date. £1750 to be paid when arriving in the UK September 2012. Final £1750 will be paid in January 2013
The programme content is designed for flexible professional learning and includes three modules to be taught at M/s. S.N.R. Charitable trust, Coimbatore.
• Clinical Context of Nursing (Core)
• Leadership in Nursing (Core)
• Learning and Teaching in Practice (Option)
You can then devise a specific programme of study by choosing two 20 credit option modules to meet your needs and interests and a core module to be taught in the UK at the University of Chester.
• Research (Core)
• 2 x option modules (Options - 20 credits each)
The Faculty of Health and Social Care offers a wide range of Masters level modules for you to choose from which are designed to offer you the key skills linked to your professional area of competence, for example:

- Infection Prevention and Control
- Leadership Development and Change
- Clinical Examination Skills
- Global Health Improvement
- Organisation and Management of Palliative Care
The programme will complete with a dissertation module which will enable you to engage in a detailed exploration of an aspect of practice of relevance to you.
• Dissertation (Core - 60 credits)
Throughout the programme you will experience a variety of teaching and learning methods designed to facilitate your achievement, and foster your personal and professional development. Fundamental to your overall learning experience will be the use of state of the art clinical skills laboratories which will provide you with the opportunity to practise techniques and nursing interventions in a simulated clinical learning environment. A wide range of methods of learning and teaching will be used including formal lectures, scenario-based learning sessions, reflection, practice-based workshops, private study sessions, and e-learning packages.
Those students opting to undertake the Overseas Nurses Programme will be provided with a clinical placement and registered Nurse mentor which will facilitate their practice learning and afford the opportunity to adapt their skills to the UK context.The University of Chester prides itself on providing excellent student support and you will be allocated a Personal academic Tutor to guide you through your studies.
Our assessment strategies will challenge your critical and creative thinking, and enable you to demonstrate your ability to advance your practice through the synthesis of existing knowledge, new knowledge and professional practice
You will be exposed to a variety of assessment methods including assignments, seminar presentations, individual case studies, coursework, Objective Structured Clinical Examinations and portfolios.
All prospective students must:
• Be registered as nurses overseas
• Have at least one year's post-qualifying experience
• Have academic qualifications to degree level (120 credits at levels 4, 5 and 6 equivalent)
• Have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5
In addition those students wishing to undertake the Overseas Nurses Programme must:
• Meet the NMC standards for registration – a decision letter from the NMC will be required. Visit www.nmc-org for further details
• Have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 7. Students with a score greater than 6.5 but less than 7 can commence the Masters in Nursing Programme and access the Overseas Nurses Programme once they have achieved the IELTS of 7.
There is also a UK Boarder Agency requirement for all students to be PBS (Points Based System) registered and the University International Office will be able to assist with this process.
