The Psychology Department at Chester is a vibrant, friendly place to study and is situated on the main Chester campus.
The Psychology Department
We pride ourselves on our student-centred approach and on producing research of national and international standing which underpins our teaching. The experience of our 30 academic staff is diverse, with interests and experience covering most professional areas of applied psychology.
There are about 600 undergraduates who are studying for Single or Combined Honours Psychology degrees. The Psychology Department offers some of the most varied combined courses in the country.
Students taking the approved pathways (whether Single or Combined Honours) are recognised by the British Psychological Society as eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which is an essential requirement for those who wish to go on to training in the traditional psychology professions.
The department also offers a postgraduate taught MSc programme in applied psychology, and a programme in Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy. We also have students studying for MPhil or PhD research degrees.
The department has links with local organisations such as Chester Zoo, Cheshire Constabulary, and several schools and hospitals across Cheshire, Merseyside and North Wales.
In addition, several staff undertake consultancy work for local, national and international organisations, frequently organised through the Research and Knowledge Transfer Office. The Department also has continuing research links with the People's Republic of China, and with Egypt and Mexico.
