Why study Accounting and Finance at Chester?

Our Accounting and Finance degree aims to create academically able students with a detailed knowledge of accounting and finance, supported by practical application of accounting packages and use of spreadsheets.

Student studies will focus on the fundamentals of financial and management accounting, supported by core modules in the management of organisations. At final level students will have an opportunity to select modules which explore their personal areas of interest and development, in relation to their career aspirations.

Features:

  • Single Honours students have the option to undertake a year's paid work placement in industry. This will take place between the second and final year.
  • On completion of the degree, students will be eligible to apply for exemptions from a number of professional accountancy bodies, such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute of Public Finance Accountants (CIPFA) and the Association of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales (ACAEW).

Assessment is through a combination of assignments, examinations, group and individual projects and seminar contributions.

The Accounting and Finance programme is designed for students who are interested in developing a career in the accounting profession, in accounting roles within organisations or who wish to develop expertise to analyse business activities from a financial perspective. Other roles could include a career in financial services, financial management or in other areas of the business community.

Chester Business School graduate careers include a wide range of private and public sector industries e.g. blue chip companies, local and central government and non-profitable organisations.  Sectors are varied and include:
