This programme has been designed to enhance the qualifications of people aspiring to a career in animal or zoo management.


Features:

The programme provides unique hands-on training and experience in animal care and welfare. This final year is taught at both the Chester campus and at Reaseheath College which holds a zoo license and houses a variety of companion, farm and zoo animals. The impressive collection enables students to gain direct experience in the management of animals such as dogs, rabbits, meerkats and lemurs as well as exotic species such as reptiles and birds. Chester also has strong links with Chester zoo where students can undertake project work.

As part of their studies, students can also conduct a research project or dissertation.

During your studies you will experience a variety of different learning and teaching environments. These will span lectures, seminars, demonstrations, laboratory practicals ad worshops developing animal-related skills and independent project work. Assessments shall be a combination of end of module exams and course work assignments and you willw rite a project report for the dissertation module detailing your research.

Your qualification will provide you with an excellent opportunity to enter the job market with a range of practical skills, academic knowledge and technical expertise that are useful to employers in animal and zoo management.

Careers in animal behaviour, animal welfare, conservation, companion animal training and care, farm animal management and zoo animal care and management will be open to you. This higher level qualification will provide you with key skills in problem solving, numeracy, effective oral and written communication, and will allow you to enter the graduate employer market, embark on a career in animal or zoo related employment or undertake further academic research or postgraduate qualifications.

Single Honours Level 6 Top-up

The full-time Level 6 'top up' is designed for students who have successfully completed the University of Chester's FdSc Animal Management (Zoo Management or Behaviour and Welfare) programme and who now wish to progress onto either the full-time BSc (Honours) in Animal Management or BSc (Honours) Zoo Management programmes. The top-up programmes are only available to external applicants via a part-time route.
