Primary Health Care is changing. There is a dramatic shift of services from secondary to primary care and therefore practitioners who work within the community environment need to be prepared to adapt reflexively and responsively to meet these changes.

In order to meet the complex and diverse care requirements of communities in the future, this new programme of study has been developed to prepare community based practitioners to embrace radical and challenging roles.

Features

The BSc (Honours) Community Health Studies degree provides the educational mechanism to ensure that collaborative working opportunities are optimised to enhance direct care delivery.

The programme will, therefore, build on the inter-professional approach to teaching and learning already established within the faculty.

This programme is delivered at the Riverside Campus in Chester.

Programme Structure:

Three Core Modules :

  • Evidence Based Practice (15 credits)
  • Healthy Communities (15 credits)
  • Dissertation (30 credits)

 

A choice of four optional 15 credit modules from the Faculty portfolio

Students will be exposed to a variety of assessment methods designed to ensure that the content, outcomes and level of the modules are measured in a fair and transparent manner.

In this programme, the following methods are used: seminar/poster presentations, cumulative portfolio, community profile, literature reviews, essays and research critiques.

This Undergraduate BSc in Community Health Studies meets the educational and professional development needs of Community and Social Care health professionals who work at a clinical level.

Our flexible and dynamic programme will prepare students to develop the qualities necessary to be effective within their own professional area relevant to the practice of Community Health.

Extra Information:

This programme is available to NMC registered nurses and midwives and other registered Allied Health Professionals.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate achievement of 120 credits at Level 4 and 120 credits at Level 5 in health or social care related subjects.

All applicants must be employed in community practice for at least 100 hours during a module, so that refl ective practice activities can be utilised.
