This one-year programme is designed to facilitate qualified registered nurses, midwives and other registered allied health professionals to achieve a BSc (Honours) Professional Practice.

Students will be provided with an educational experience, tailored to their particular requirements, so as to gain professional experience.

This will enable them to work collaboratively and flexibly within health and social care systems.

The programme content is designed for flexible, professional learning and includes three 20-credit core modules:


• Clinical Context of Care
• Evidence Based practice in health and Social Care
• Management of Clinical Care


You can then devise a specific programme of study by choosing three 20-credit option modules to meet your
needs and interests.
• 3 x option modules (20 credits each)


The Faculty of Health and Social Care offers a wide range of degree level modules for you to choose from, which are designed to offer you the key skills linked to your professional area of competence, for example:

  • Overseas Nurses Programme
  • Infection Prevention and Control
  • Care of the Older Person
  • Respiratory Care
  • Diabetes Care
  • Tissue Viability

Students will be exposed to a variety of assessment methods designed to ensure that the content, outcomes and level of the modules are measured in a fair and transparent manner.

Examples include assignments, examinations, seminar presentations, individual case studies, coursework assignments, portfolios, research critique, and practice assessment.

Knowledge and understanding will be tested through the above assessment strategies. Intellectual skills will be assessed normally through coursework, and students will be asked to demonstrate thinking and cognitive ability through the assessed work.

All prospective students must:

• Be registered as nurses overseas

• Have at least one year’s post-qualifying experience

• Have academic qualifi cations to diploma level (120 credits at levels 4, 5 or equivalent)

• Have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 6.5

In addition those students wishing to undertake the Overseas Nurses Programme must:

• Meet the NMC standards for registration – a decision letter from the NMC will be required.

• Have achieved International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a score of 7 or above.

Students with a score greater than 6.5 but less than 7 can commence the BSc professional Nursing Programme and access the Overseas Nurses Programme once they have achieved the IELTS of 7.

There is also a UK Border Agency requirement for all students to be PBS (Points Based System) registered, and the University International Offi ce will be able to assist with this process.
