FAQs - Student Ambassador Scheme

Will I receive any training?

Yes.  When you are appointed as a Student Ambassador you will be invited to come to a training session where we will give you more detail about the role, safeguarding information and the latest information regarding student finance.  As part of the training Outreach will go through a typical interactive campus tour and then a member of the Marketing team will take you on a typical Marketing campus tour.  In total the training session will last approximately 2 hours.  Before each event you will always be briefed by a member of staff so that you know what your role and tasks are.

What is the process for becoming a Student Ambassador?

First of all we require some contact details from you; you can provide these by completing a short online form.  Once we have received your details we will invite you to a short informal interview. The interview is our opportunity to find out more about you and it is your opportunity to let us know why you think you would make a good Student Ambassador and also to ask us any questions you may have.  After the interview we will provide you with feedback and let you know whether you have been successful or not.  If you have been successful we will invite you to a training session to give you all the required information.

Who can become a Student Ambassador?

Any current University of Chester student can apply to become a Student Ambassador.


Can I choose which events I volunteer for?

Yes you will get sent emails with information about various events, all you need to do is respond saying which events you would like to do. In the unlikely event that we get too many volunteers for an event we will allocate as fairly as possible.

What events may I be asked to work?

You may be asked to work on a range of events.  Outreach events include University visits for young people, school visits, subject specific days, taster days and access days.  Marketing events include Open Days, Applicant Days and UCAS Fairs.  On Open Days and Applicant Days Student Ambassadors provide campus tours, general signposting and showing accommodation.  If you are a first year student living in University accommodation you can volunteer to show your room to potential students.

How much time do I need to commit?

This is really up to you! You can volunteer for as many or as few events as you like. Some Outreach events such as interactive tours may only last an hour or two whereas Marketing events such as Applicant Days are normally a whole day e.g. 10am – 3pm.
