Our range of CPD programmes support every stage of a teachers and educators development. Designed and delivered by expert practitioners. In addition to our suite of award bearing courses, the Faculty of Education and Children's Services provides a range of short courses that meet local needs and priorities with a focus on high quality development that achieves real change.

How our CPD fits within a bigger picture of an accredited pathway

Our programme of CPD integrates into our MA courses and our BA Childhood and Youth Professional Studies (BA CYPS) to build a full programme of professional development and support. Using our accreditation of prior learning framework you can bring in qualifications from NCTL such as the NPQML, NQPSL, NPQH, as well as NASBM’s Diploma in School Business Management.

Leadership and Coaching

These courses are tailored to the needs of the school, college or other organisation to meet current needs and priorities. The programmes can include:
Personal effectiveness, leadership vision, managing change, problem-solving and decision-making, self-awareness and giving and receiving feedback. Participants will critically investigate leadership and management strategies.The focus of these programmes is to improve the leadership and management skills and expertise of the workforce.

Special Education Needs and Disability (SEND), Dyslexia and Access Arrangements

Our short courses and interactive workshops for professionals have been designed to meet the needs of most educational settings including schools, colleges and HE providers.  They have been designed with the new 2014 SEN Code of Practice in mind as well as providing CPD for SENCos and for Specialist Teachers to support their Practicing Certificate renewals. They include such topics as:

Supporting Dyslexic learners for TAs; working with young people and children with Autism; statistics for assessors; emotional aspects of teaching and learning; assessment of Dyspraxia in adults.

Subject Knowledge and Pedagogy

These  courses are for schools, colleges and settings and their teachers / educators who want to advance, develop and improve their teaching practice and subject pedagogy. Participants will deepen their subject knowledge and understanding, reflecting on models for teaching within their own context.

The end result is a motivated teacher with the tools and expertise to succeed, leading not only to enhanced classroom and learner performance but also higher standards across the school/ college and setting.

NQT Matters Programme

This programme of specialist workshops and conferences is intended to provide Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) with the opportunity to continue the professional practice developed in their training programme (eg PGCE, BA or School-based route). The course will support and enhance school-based induction programmes and the development of the NQT induction portfolio.
