The NQT Year

We know that the first year of teaching is both exciting and challenging and many teachers look back on it as one of the most rewarding years in their career.   We also understand that it can seem quite daunting, and that there may be challenges to face and that it is important that you are able to access support during this important first year to ensure that your first year is a successful and positive experience.  To that end we have developed a specific package of support for you, which works alongside the support that you will be receiving in school.  We will celebrate with you your successes, help to develop your knowledge and skills, and enhance your professional practice, drawing on the skills and expertise of University and partnership staff.

This year we have launched our NQT Matters programme which includes:

  • Annual programme offering a complete package of CPD support (Primary and Secondary specific)
  • 4 Conferences per year (discounted for University of Chester alumni)
  • Comprehensive programme of Specialist Mastery Workshops (Primary and Secondary specific)
  • NQT Matters programme links into and supports completion of the statutory NQT Portfolio
  • 20 credits towards a Masters can be gained through the completion of the NQT Portfolio and accompanying critical commentary

In addition to NQT Matters during your first year of teaching, there are ways that you can obtain special rates on Masters Programmes or CPD.
