The Student Law Society Presents: An Audience with Vicky Jones

Vicky Jones

Vicky Jones graduated from the University with a first class LLB. She won a scholarship from Bangor to complete an LLM but then worked with a law firm in Wrexham whilst studying part time on the Legal Practice Course at the College of Law, Chester. She obtained a training contract with London Legal Aid practice, Hanne & Co. in the summer of 2011 and is now in the 2nd year of her training contract.

Vicky returned to the University at the request of the student law society in order that she could talk to current students about her experiences since leaving the University in 2008. The support of Alumni is important to the Law School as it provides current students with knowledge and understanding of the current working conditions and job opportunities in the legal sector.

Vicky’s talk was based around her own university experience and how important it is to have a ‘strong’ CV, which requires more than just good academic credentials. Vicky demonstrated the importance of research into law firms so that your application can be distinct. She then went on to discuss how she enhanced her CV through work experience and further post graduate study. She concluded by explaining to students what law firms now looked for in their future trainee solicitors such as team working skills and commercial awareness.

This talk was one of a series organised by the student law society. The student law society offers a range of educational and social events throughout the year, culminating in the summer law ball.

Congratulations should also go to Carla Adams another 2008 law graduate who has qualified as a solicitor and been appointed as in-house commercial lawyer for Live Nation/Ticketmaster.
