Head of Department - Marketing, Tourism & Events Management


Andy has been Head of Department since April 2015 and was previously programme leader for the Tourism programmes.
Lectures in Tourism, focusing on destination management and sustainable tourism development. PhD in - Tourism and sustainable development: active stakeholder discourses in the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve, South Africa.
Research interests include tourism development, destination management, sustainability in tourism, backpacker tourism and discourse analysis.
Currently developing a Centre for Destination Development to further research, knowledge transfer and partnership building for the faculty within tourism, events, hospitality and related areas.

Other Expertise

Consultancy on tourism development projects in Tenerife, focusing on rural sustainable development and also in The Gambia, developing community-based tourism in a small coastal resort.
