When will information be sent to me?

Information will be distributed via e-mail on a regular basis and you will also receive information via post, advising you how and when to apply.  Further information will also be available online.

Are all first year students guaranteed accommodation?

While we endeavour to accommodate all first year students, depending on the number of applications we receive this may not always be possible. If the University is unable to offer you accommodation, the team will provide you with all the information required for you to secure good quality, local private sector accommodation.

Our aim at the University of Chester is to help all first year undergraduates find suitable accommodation either in University residences, our partnership accommodation or in the private sector.  As the University is not able to accommodate all first year undergraduate students, we take into account the following criteria:

  • University of Chester as first choice of study.
  • Geographical location of the students’ home base; places are allocated to those who live the furthest from the University.
  • Special needs or circumstances e.g. special medical conditions and care leavers.
  • Late Application – Students who apply late, gain entry through an insurance choice or via Clearing are less likely to be allocated a place in University accommodation.
  • Applicants for Science and Engineering courses based at Thornton Science Park are guaranteed accommodation.  Further details on the conditions of this allocation can be found on the Thornton Science Park accommodation pages.

When will I hear if my application has been successful?

Following the application deadline, we will contact you to let you know the progress with your application. At this point, we should be able to confirm that a room has been reserved for you.

Once your academic results are known and your place at Chester has been confirmed or you have been offered an unconditional offer, we will then advise you of the actual room you have been allocated. This will happen after the deadline for applicattions ( 12th June), however for the majority of students, this will be around A-Level Results Day on Thursday 17th August 2017.

If we receive your application after the advised deadline,we will endeavour to process your application, but applications received before the deadline will take priority.

How do I secure my accommodation offer?

When you accept your offer of accommodation online, you will be required to pay a £250.00 deposit.   Failure to do so may result in your accommodation being allocated to another student.

What if I have a specific need?

Some rooms in University accommodation have been adapted for students with specific needs or disabilities. Students who have a disability or specific need must contact the Disability Co-ordinator in Student Support and Guidance, who can advise and assist you regarding your accommodation.

 Telephone: 01244 511008 Email: disability@chester.ac.uk

What if I am on holiday when you offer me accommodation?

If you are allocated University owned accommodation you will receive an email asking you to log into PASS and review the offer made to you online. You will also be given a deadline to which you must make a decision - unfortunately this deadline cannot be extended.  However, the online service enables you to access accept the accommodation offer/contract anywhere in the world.

What if I am not allocated accommodation?

Firstly, don’t panic – there will be other students in the same situation as you. If you are not offered University accommodation you will receive a web link providing the contact details of private sector landlords within the area who are advertising student properties. All the properties on the web site have been accredited or Student Stamped by Cheshire West and Chester Council and are close to the University. Once you receive the link you will need to contact the landlords directly to make appointments to view the properties. Before signing any contracts with a landlord please check them thoroughly and understand what you are signing for. Please visit www.chesterstudentstamp.co.uk for further information.
