Another exciting conference event

Posted on 11th February 2014

Every year, the Department of Social Studies and Counselling hosts a national conference, which is based on a Sociology module designed to facilitate student research into a specific area of study related to the course.

This year the conference is entitled 'Pornography in Contemporary Times' and Spaces and will be held on the 3rd - 5th March 2014. Every year the students choose the theme of the conference which will be attended by students and staff from the University as well as invited external speakers, UK academics, professionals and activists. The aim of the event is to introduce undergraduate students to current research and debates on pornography with an interdisciplinary approach.

Students from the Sociology programme will play active roles throughout the three days, to ensure the running of the event is as successful as previous years. Morning sessions (devoted to academic speakers) will be followed by afternoon workshop sessions, which will be led by both academic and non-academic speakers.

The conference programme will be available in due course. However, confirmed speakers include Prof. Feona Attwood (Sheffield Hallam University), Prof. Emma Renold (Cardiff University) and Prof. Jessica Ringrose (University of London). The conference proceedings will be published in book form as part of the Department's long-standing 'Issues in the Social Sciences' series (University of Chester Press), the aim of which is to present cutting-edge research to scholars at all levels.
