Retail Management students at the University of Chester Business School were inspired by a visit to the UK’s largest designer outlet at Cheshire Oaks recently – but unlike other visitors, they weren’t Christmas shopping!

James Pope, Retail Manager at McArthurGlen gave the students a unique insight into the running of McArthurGlen Designer Outlet Cheshire Oaks which offers a quarter of a million square feet of retail space with more than 145 boutiques, restaurants and cafés. They enjoyed a talk, before setting off to see the outlet’s Christmas Corner and discussing what it brings to the site.

The students have chosen the Retail Management module as part of their degree course at the University’s Business School, which delivers programmes in Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Marketing, Events Management and Tourism.

Senior Lecturer Lisa Conway said: “Our visit was of enormous value for our final year Business School students, giving them a first-hand insight into the designer outlet model as part of their assignment, comparing key aspects of retail management in a range of locations and formats. What better time of year than this to highlight the importance of the customer experience in a retail location”.
