Professor of Counselling and Spiritual Accompaniment

Professor Gubi is programme leader for the Doctor of Professional Studies (DProf) programme in Counselling and Psychotherapy Studies and the DProf in Psychological Trauma. He also supervises a number of PhD and MA research students, and is the Senior Postgraduate Research Tutor in the Faculty of Social Science.

Overview

Professor Gubi has worked in the Counselling profession for over thirty years in the contexts of Primary Care, the voluntary sector, education, and private practice. He currently has a private practice in Crewe offering Supervision, Counselling, Pastoral Supervision and Spiritual Direction.

He has held senior roles in Counsellor Training at the University of Central Lancashire (where he was a Principal Lecturer) and South Cheshire College (where he was a Senior Lecturer). He has served on the Executive Committee of BACP Spirituality (a Division of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). He has researched and published extensively.

At Chester, he mostly supervises postgraduate research (MA/MPhil/PhD/DProf) and teaches on the DProf programme. He has had 62 successful MA completions, and 6 PhD/DProf completions, to-date, and currently supervises 8 PhD/DProf students as Principal Supervisor. He also examines doctoral work in other universities and has examined 14 doctoral theses to-date as External Examiner. As well as being a Professor at Chester, Professor Gubi is (non-stipendiary) Minister at Dukinfield Moravian Church, Manchester, and is a member of the Church Service Committee of the Moravian Church (British Province)

Teaching

At the University of Chester, Professor Gubi teaches on the DProf programme, and also supervises MA, DProf and PhD research.
