Research and Knowledge Exchange
Professor Lawrence has wide interests and experience in all aspects of marine biodiversity research and conservation, from invertebrate ecophysiology and the impact of climate change on this, to invertebrate fisheries conservation and management, coral reef conservation and the economics of ecosystems and biodiversity. Research on marine invertebrate reproduction and the environmental and endocrine control of these processes highlighted the implications of climate change on these with potential breeding failure and consequences for ecosystem function. Professor Lawrence has focussed much of his recent research in the Red Sea and Caribbean (where he worked for 5 years). Here he has researched aspects of sea cucumber fisheries and sustainability, tourism development on coral reefs and the economic value of mangrove systems.
