Amanda Mcgarry

Biography
Amanda is a Senior Lecturer in the department of Social and Political Science teaching on the Counselling Skills undergraduate programme and the masters in Clinical Counselling. As a person-centred counsellor, she strives to be mindful of how power is structured in her therapeutic work; this also informs her teaching practice and research.
Teaching and Supervision
Amanda is the module leader for three undergraduate modules, Ethics in the Helping Relationship, Embedded Counselling Skills in Context, and Developing Multicultural Competence. She supports students with their personal development and skills practice whilst completing their counselling training at postgraduate level and is a research supervisor.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Amanda has a variety of research interests but is currently focused on exploring issues of social justice and power in the therapeutic relationship, with a particular focus on gender and feminism, and suicide within the context of the person-centred approach.
