Dr Astrid Schepman

Biography

Dr Astrid Schepman is a Senior Lecturer in Psychology, Division of Psychology, School of Society, Faculty of Health, Medicine and Society at the University of Chester, UK, with responsibility for research and teaching, alongside administrative roles. Astrid has the role the Research Excellence Framework (REF) Coordinator for Unit of Assessment 4 (Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience), and is a member of the University's Research Management Group, a member of the Division of Psychology Research Strategy Group.

Teaching and Supervision

Dr Astrid Schepman teaches Biological Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, and Quantitative / Experimental Research Methods, mostly at MSc level and final-year undergraduate level. Astrid supervises research dissertations at MSc and BSc level on a wide variety of topics including Mental Health Literacy, the Societal Impacts of Artificial Intelligence, and topics in Experimental Psychology / Neuropsychology. Astrid is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Astrid has been involved in pedagogy projects examining learning at Higher Education level (e-portfolios, metacognition, self-regulated learning, reflection, mobile learning with Evernote) and is currently involved in the TeacherMatic pilot, through JISC.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Dr Astrid Schepman has a strong track record of research in psychology, mostly working in Experimental Psychology. Current major research interests include Attitudes towards Artificial Intelligence, Laterality, Prosody, Speech, Sound & Voice, Auditory Processing, and aspects of Mental Health. Astrid currently supervises four PhD students. Astrid's research has been supported by funding from The British Academy, The Carnegie Trust, The Higher Education Academy Psychology Network, JISC and the Experimental Psychology Society, as well as by internal grants. Astrid’s D.Phil. research was supported by SERC/EPSRC. Astrid Schepman acts as peer reviewer for a range of academic journals and reviews research funding applications for a number of research funding bodies.
