Biography
Lucy Andrew is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at the University of Chester where she teaches and researches crime fiction, children's and young adult fiction, popular culture and creative writing. She runs the University of Chester's online creative writing group, Just Write! She is a crime writer who has been shortlisted for the Penguin Michael Joseph Undiscovered Writers' Prize 2022-23, was a finalist at Bloody Scotland's Pitch Perfect competition 2023, highly commended in Spread the Word's Case Closed First Chapter competition 2023 and runner-up in A M Heath's Criminal Lines competition 2024. She is represented by Euan Thorneycroft at A M Heath. Her first novel, A Very Vexing Murder, a cosy crime retelling of Jane Austen's Emma is due for publication with Corvus (Atlantic Books) in 2026. Lucy has secured a two-book deal with Corvus for the first two books in this series in which con-woman-turned-detective, Harriet Smith, solves crimes in the world of Austen's novels.
Teaching and Supervision
Lucy's teaching interests are in crime fiction, creative writing, children's and young adult fiction, film and television and popular culture. She is currently module leader for Reading Other Worlds (Level 4) Children's Literature: Genres, Forms, Functions (Level 5) and Young Adult Fiction (Level 6). She also teaches on Crime Deviance and Subversion (Level 6). She supervises undergraduate and postgraduate projects in English Literature and Creative Writing. In particular, she is interested in supervising postgraduate research projects on children's and young adult crime fiction, Jack the Ripper and his victims, Nancy Drew, sidekicks in crime fiction, Batman and Robin, crime writing and Jane Austen retellings.

She has particular research interests in Jack the Ripper's victims, Jane Austen and crime fiction, the Nancy Drew series, sidekicks in crime fiction, and children's and young adult crime fiction.
