Biography

I joined the University of Chester in October 2025 as a Professor of Medical Education (MBChB) after more than 14 years at Edge Hill University. During my time at Edge Hill University Medical School I led Psychology for Medicine teaching and delivery, the Foundation Year for Medicine programme, Admissions and Selection, and various staff development initiatives and committees in Teaching & Learning (T&L). I was also instrumental in overseeing aspects of the General Medical Council (GMC) approval/accreditation processes for a new medical programme. I am passionate about widening participation in medicine and have won various awards for leading initiatives in this area. Awards have included an Advance HE National Teaching Fellowship and the Association for Medical Education (ASME) New Leaders Award. I am also and executive board member for the Medical Schools Council (MSC) Selection Alliance and have chaired national networks that promote and support widening participation in medicine. I am a chartered psychologist with the British Psychological Society.

Teaching and Supervision

I have extensive teaching experience in 3 Universities. My main areas of teaching expertise include: - Psychology for Medicine and Behavioural Sciences - Communication & Inter-personal skills - Research methods and study skills - Staff development in T&L I have won student led teaching awards and personal tutoring awards.
