International Business Stood Out as the Perfect Course
Pourya Mirilavasani shares how an MSc course has been transformational and tells us about his journey from undergraduate degree to working for an international company.

From Languages to Global Business
After completing my undergraduate degree in Spanish and French, I knew I wanted to combine my language skills with another field to broaden my career options. International Business felt like the ideal way to build on my language background while gaining valuable practical knowledge I could apply in future job roles.
I initially joined my current company, Cokebusters, as an on-site interpreter at refineries. The company delivers specialist mechanical cleaning and piping inspection services to the energy sector. While also supporting with admin tasks, I shared an office with colleagues who were involved in the commercial side of the business, including international communication with clients across the world. Thanks to the knowledge I gained during my master’s course, I found it much easier to understand and pick up the business side of things. That experience played a big part in earning a promotion to my current role as Commercial Coordinator
Every Day Brings Something New
My role as a Commercial Coordinator is definitely rewarding. Every day brings something new, and I regularly communicate with clients from across the world, which makes for a dynamic and engaging work experience.
A Fresh Perspective on How Business Works
The degree itself was fascinating and gave me a valuable perspective on how global business works. I’d definitely recommend it to anyone looking to enter the business world - it gives you a strong foundation and helps you stand out in the job market, particularly if you don’t have much prior experience in business. The degree not only builds your knowledge but also boosts your confidence when it comes to understanding how companies operate.
Chester Has a Lot to Offer
Across every campus I studied at, the staff were always approachable and genuinely invested in helping students do well.
Their teaching style, dedication and support made a real difference in my learning. I truly believe that without their approach, I wouldn’t have progressed as well as I did - both during my time at university and afterwards in my career.
The city itself also has a lot to offer. It’s a beautiful, historic place with a great mix of culture and student life, which creates a really welcoming environment for anyone studying there.
I have fond memories of both my graduations in Chester Cathedral, which is an impressive work of architecture.
If You're Considering Postgraduate Study, Go For It!
It might feel like a big step at first, but it's one that can really open doors, both personally and professionally. My advice would be to choose a course that genuinely interests you and aligns with where you see yourself in the future.
A Masters’ degree gives you the chance to dive deeper into a subject, gain confidence and build skills that employers value.
