My Student Experience at the University of Chester
Mounia decided to study at the University of Chester after attending a university fair in her home country. Read on to find out more about her experience.

We asked current BSc Psychology and international student, Mounia, to share her University of Chester experience with us. Here’s what she had to say.
Why Did You Choose to Study in the UK?
I chose to study in the UK because it aligns with my academic background and future career goals. Having attended an English-speaking school, it felt natural to continue my education in an English-speaking country. The UK also offers world-renowned courses in psychology, a field I am deeply passionate about.
Additionally, its proximity to Morocco allows me to visit my family while experiencing life independently away from home. Transitioning into such an important stage in my life and experiencing living alone first-hand proved to be difficult. However, the University supports new students to settle into student life swiftly.
Why Did You Choose the University of Chester?
The University of Chester took part in a university fair at my previous school. After learning more about the course, university life and the city, I decided the University of Chester was my best option for an English-based psychology degree.
What Accommodation Did You Choose?
My first-year student accommodation was in Grosvenor House, located in the Exton Park campus. The studio is fully equipped and only a minute or two away from my lecture halls, which was convenient.
What is Your Favourite Thing About Your Course?
I enjoy the research labs, which allow students to discover the subject outside a lecture hall. Experimenting with high-tech equipment provided by the University during the psychology lab groups is one of my favourite things the course has to offer.
What Are Your Plans After Graduating?
Once I complete my psychology degree, I plan on continuing my education and enrolling on a Master’s course in the paediatric neuropsychology field. I’ve done some work experience at an autism centre in Tangier, Morocco, where I worked one-on-one with the kids. Going through this experience makes me realise my passion for helping others, especially children who need psychological help.
What Is Your Favourite Thing About the University of Chester?
My favourite thing about the University of Chester is the sense of community and togetherness, whether it’s in the lecture halls with classmates, the sports hall with teammates, or in society meetings with fellow members. Joining a society and a volleyball team has helped me leave my comfort zone and take the first step in making friends.
What Do You Like to Do Outside of Your Studies?
Balancing your study/social life is crucial so that you can make the most of your university experience. Studying at the library rather than in my room helped me separate a relaxation area from a place where I can be productive. Group study sessions with classmates in the library are also helpful from a social point of view. In my spare time, I enjoy walks alongside the canal, having coffee with friends, and going to volleyball training or playing volleyball with friends at Grosvenor Park.
What Do You Think of the City?
I find Chester to be a charming and student-friendly city, with a perfect balance of historic and modern, making it a comfortable and enjoyable place to live and study.
The city is also very safe and welcoming, and it’s easy to get around on foot, which is great if you live near/on campus, and it’s great for student life.
Do You Have Any Advice for Future International Students?
One piece of advice I would give international students considering applying to the University of Chester is to get involved through Chester Students’ Union in societies, and to join a sports team(s) through the Athletics’ Union. The University of Chester is welcoming, but taking the first step in connecting with others will make your experience even more enjoyable.
