University recognised as a Gold EcoCampus
The University of Chester has been awarded a gold level certification for its sustainability activities.

The institution has been awarded a Gold EcoCampus status following a rigorous audit, recognising its significant progress in environmental management and sustainability.
EcoCampus is a leading environmental management scheme for universities and colleges in line with the international management system standard, ISO14001. It is designed to help institutions embed environmental sustainability into every aspect of their operations through a phased approach. The Gold award highlights the University’s commitment to continual improvement of its environmental performance and management of its environmental impacts through setting of clear objectives and responsibilities. It also attests to the implementation of robust operational controls and procedures to ensure consistency and adherence to standards.
The University will continue working towards the Platinum EcoCampus award, the highest level of recognition, and ISO14001 certification, as part of its broader commitment to create opportunities for students and staff to engage in sustainability actions, as well as to support the delivery of our Citizen Student strategy.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eunice Simmons said: “Achieving Gold EcoCampus status is an important step in our wider sustainability ambitions. Alongside our success in securing a major public sector decarbonisation grant for a large-scale heat decarbonisation scheme and achieving the Bronze Carbon Literate Educator award recently, this recognition shows how we are building momentum towards creating a more sustainable university. Together, these initiatives demonstrate our commitment to embedding sustainability in all our processes and decisions.”
