University staff and students to bring their expertise to Storyhouse Women Weekend
Staff and students from the University of Chester will be playing their part at this month’s Storyhouse Women Weekend in a range of thought-provoking events.

The inclusive weekend, which takes place on May 10-11, features panels, empowering workshops, and performances to address urgent issues, celebrate diverse narratives, and create momentum.
As part of the programme Dr Dawn Llewellyn, Assoicate Professor of Religion and Gender, will give a bite-size talk on What is Fourth Wave Feminism? as part of An Expert Explains panel. This is facilitated by Prof Caroline Tee (Theology and Religious Studies).
Dawn is also collaborating with award-winning artist Dr Sarah Lightman, whose exhibition – Biblical Women Ageing Disgracefully – is on during May as part of the Festival, with Dawn writing the catalogue essay for the exhibition. Dawn and Sarah are following this with a panel at Chester's Festival of Ideas in July.
Additionally, University of Chester Professional Doctorate graduate in Theology and Religious Studies, Rev Dr Louise Annison – a prison chaplain – features on Is Prison the Answer for Women? with Dr Gill Buck (Associate Professor of Social Work) . As well as this, Prof Emma Rees (Director of the Institute of Gender Studies) is chairing the session on Art, Activism, and Abuse.
Almost all Storyhouse Women Weekend events are free or £5, with the University ones included in the Weekend Pass (£15) or Day Pass (£10). For more information, visit https://www.storyhouse.com/seasons/storyhouse-women/
Dawn, who has been involved in programming and speaking at the festival every year since its launch, said: "Storyhouse Women is such an important, fun, and inclusive weekend. It’s exciting that our students and staff can take part and share their research and lived experiences across a range of themes.”
Nicola Haigh, Storyhouse's Community Project Manager who curates the festival, added: “Having the University of Chester on our doorstep makes curating Storyhouse Women extra exciting; having local, international experts in our city, who specialise in gender, gives our audiences an opportunity to hear directly from academics and to be inspired by their insights.”
