University student excited as debut book set in fantasy world is ready for launch
A University of Chester Master’s student is preparing for the launch of her debut book which has been five years in the making.

None Down, Three to Go is the title of Vicki Bolland’s new fantasy book, which will be available to purchase through Waterstones, Amazon and publishing company Pegasus Publishers.
The fantasy tale follows the journey of twin brother warriors Max and Sam as they face new challenges. When they discover their sister Elodie is missing and has harmed herself, Max must confront her and convince her to seek help. Returning to the fort, tensions rise among the siblings and they must navigate their strained relationships.
With themes of family bonds, mental health and the impact of past promises, None Down, Three to Go is a captivating tale of courage, sacrifice and the enduring strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
Vicki, 22, currently studying her Master’s in Archaeology of Death and Memory, said of the book: “It took me five years, on and off, to finish. To see it published is the best feeling, it’s like a piece of you that you get to give to the world!
“My inspiration to write this book came from another fantasy book I read where the characters didn’t feel real to me. I decided I wanted to create a fantasy book that took place in a fictional world, but where the characters feel real. My characters have to deal with things we don’t, such as a curse and an evil king trying to kill them, but also things we do, such as mental health issues, grief and fear.
“It’s aimed at young adults, suitable for over the age of 16. If people are a fan of The Hunger Games, Game of Thrones or Percy Jackson, I think they’d enjoy it.”
Vicki, who grew up in Broom, Bedfordshire, added there were several people to thank for making her book become a reality, including Elowyn Hamer for helping with the cover design, Benji Smith and Max Whittaker-Mead, as well as everyone who has been excited about the process, through writing and publishing.
None Down, Three to Go is available to pre-order at Watersones, Amazon and Pegasus Publishers, and will be published on May 29.
