"Looking back, choosing Chester was one of the best decisions I made, as it set me on the right path toward my career."

I moved to the UK to complete my MSc in Computer Science at the University of Chester. I am now employed as a Data Analyst at Oze, a fintech company with its head office in the U.S. and operations across Africa. From 1st October, I will be starting a new role as a Data Analyst with Plymouth City Council in the UK. This transition reflects both the international experience I’ve gained through Oze and the opportunities my MSc at Chester has opened up here in the UK.

My MSc in Computer Science at Chester gave me a strong technical foundation that I use every day as a Data Analyst. The Web Systems module, where I designed and built databases and built on my SQL skills, directly supports the work I now do in extracting, cleaning, and analysing data. Just as importantly, the MSc gave me the technical confidence that I was on the right path with the transition I had already started into technology and data. It made me feel certain that I could thrive in the real world.

I chose the University of Chester because it offered the perfect balance of strong academic teaching, practical application, and a supportive community. The course structure provided opportunities to go beyond theory, with modules like Web Systems and my dissertation giving me hands-on experience in databases, SQL, and data analysis techniques that I now use in my career. I was also drawn to Chester’s Informatics Centre, which connects students with real-world development projects and shows how academic knowledge can translate into practical business impact.

Beyond academics, Chester’s welcoming environment, student support, and commitment to diversity gave me the confidence that I could thrive both personally and professionally. Looking back, choosing Chester was one of the best decisions I made, as it set me on the right path toward a career in data and analytics, and I now even recommend it to others who want to study in the UK.
