15:23 TO HOLYHEAD
Andrew Bennett
Some clouds are pale, some gloomy. They fill
the sky, allowing today’s last beams of sunlight
to creep through – akin to luscious green fields
poking into view through the trees. The whirr of
the engine vivacious, the seats more comfortable
than remembered and the carriage emptier than
expected. Unkept shrubbery wraps the tracks, warm
autumn hues in full flourish. Houses proudly overlook
their inferiors. Terrain grows, widens – perpetuating the land
and sea divide. Humble farmhouses nestle comfortably in
the trees. Woodland glows with greenery, sea surprisingly
glum and still. Infrastructure ascendingly more worn-out at
each station along – makes me feel less so. Flocks of sheep overlook
large stretches of empty land as they calmly graze – I long to feel
at ease like such.
