Personal Academic Advice

Before you arrive, you will receive information on where you can access academic advice in relation to your course and subject studies. This may be an academic member of staff from your School within one of our three faculties or directly from your faculty ConnectHub. If you are a Foundation Year student, all academic advice will be provided by the Centre for Foundation Studies.

Academic advice and guidance will include monitoring your academic progress for the duration of your course and this will be done in collaboration with you.

Personal Academic Advice will include:

  • Subject-specific academic advice and guidance throughout your course.
  • Directing or referring students who are experiencing any issues to appropriate sources of specialist support within or beyond the University community.
  • Engagement with the electronic attendance monitoring records of individual students.
  • Contact and arrange meetings to support students who are not attending taught sessions regularly for any reason.
  • Maintaining a general overview of a student’s academic performance

Induction and Transition

During Welcome Week, you will be given specific information on where you can access personal academic advice. It is important that you attend your Division and/or School meetings for Welcome Week to understand where you can go for academic support. You will also meet your Course or Module Leaders during this week, who will present introductory information on your course of study and the support available to you.

Although your academic teaching staff are primarily concerned with your academic progress, you can ask them to signpost you to the appropriate service for non-academic matters. For example, one of our specialist team members within Student Services for any personal issues impacting upon your ability to attend taught sessions, study effectively, or perform to the best of your ability.
