I completed my LLB (Hons) at Leeds University and proceeded to the Law Society Finals at the College of Law. I started training as an articled clerk in 1986 following which I was admitted as a solicitor and worked in private practice and local government.

I moved into Higher Education working at the University of Huddersfield within the Law School teaching a variety of both legal practice (LPC) and academic subjects with a focus on litigation and evidence. I became law subject group leader and Director of the Legal Advice Clinic. During my time at Huddersfield I was admitted as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and completed both my LLM and PhD. Publications have been on aspects of litigation and evidence. I have also supervised Masters students towards completion of the LLM on areas of professional practice. I have been appointed to numerous External Examiner roles on courses regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) and undertaken several returns to practice.

I am now a Senior Lecturer at Chester Law School.
