Visiting Research Fellow

Chester Medical School
Dr Chris Kite

Based at University Centre Shrewsbury, Chris is a module leader on the BSc Health and Exercise Science programme. Chris’s PhD research investigated the effectiveness of exercise in treating women with PCOS and this work continues through research fellowships at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, and Coventry University. Additional research interests include exercise and metabolic health, psychological wellbeing, and behaviour change.

Dr Chris Kite is an early career researcher and a lecturer of health and exercise science at the University of Chester, based at University Centre Shrewsbury. Following a lifelong interest in sport, Chris was awarded first-class honours in his BSc Sport and Exercise Science degree, followed by a distinction at MRes level from the University of Wolverhampton. It was during employment as a graduate teaching assistant that Chris gained his PGCE, and the focus of his teaching and research interests shifted from sport to health. Accordingly, his PhD at Aston University investigated the effectiveness of exercise as a treatment strategy in the management of women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

Since starting at the University of Chester in 2017, Chris has collaborated on international research projects, and supervised numerous postgraduate projects to completion, leading to a growing body of published work. Alongside his lecturer role, Chris holds honorary research posts at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, and Coventry University, where his research on exercise in the management PCOS, and other metabolic conditions has continued.

Chris is the module leader for several programmes on the BSc (hons) Health and Exercise Science programme.

These are MD4102 Health and Human Behaviour, MD4105 and MD5105 Applied Practice 1 & 2 respectively, MD5102 Personal and Professional Practice, as well as MD4106, MD5106, and MD6102 which are the Professional Practicum Placement modules for each level of undergraduate study.

In addition, Chris teaches on other undergraduate and postgraduate modules and also supervises dissertation students at undergraduate and postgraduate level, as well as supporting PhD students in partnership with other academic institutions.
