Programme leader - MSc Nursing
I joined the University of Chester in November 2018 after being employed in Higher Education for 18 years. I have been a program leader for post registration leadership courses and Practice nursing for several years. I attained a Professional Doctorate in 2018 and won the RCN Nurse of the Year award for education in Wales for my work into caring and compassion in 2017. I am currently the program leader for adult branch pre-registration nursing at Wheeler.
I currently lead on NM6402, NM6144, NM6174, NM6176, NM7105, NM7106 and NM5211. I also supervise master's students for their dissertation module.
I have been an external examiner for Edge Hill University, an external advisor for UCLAN and am an external advisor for Teesside University and UCLAN for masters level courses.
I have carried out research into mentorship using focus groups, used phenomenology to explore caring in nursing and used Grounded Theory to compare service user and nurses’ perceptions of caring.
I have published a research methods book called “A survival guide for health research methods” for McGraw-Hill. I have published a book chapter for Lantern Publishing on Critical thinking and have written a book chapter for Lantern on Resilience and critical thinking. I have presented at several conferences on the subject of compassionate care. I have recently published a second chapter for Lantern on critical thinking and resilience.
