Dr Gibbs is an experienced qualified accountant with over 20 years work experience. His interest in teaching in higher education developed as he studied for an MBA, MRES, and finally a PhD. He is now a student focused teaching professional with wide experience of developing and teaching on accounting and finance programmes.

Teaching Interests

Dr Gibbs has lectured extensively at postgraduate and undergraduate levels across accounting and finance subjects. He is an experienced programme leader, creating and developing new programmes and modules. He has also taught ACCA, CIMA and AAT professional courses.

Dr Gibbs has successfully supervised students on postgraduate research and taught degrees. Many of his students are professionals researching their workplace. Dr Gibbs is an experienced external examiner for business, accounting and MBA programmes.

Research Interests

As a professional qualified accountant with over 20 years experience, Dr Gibbs has a strong interest in professional identity, image and changing roles. Especially, how changing organisational activity affects professionals as they conduct their day-to-day roles.

He is particularly interested in Cultural Historical Activity Theory (CHAT) as a method for analysing professional activity within the workplace.
