Fashion students launch inaugural virtual magazine at industry showcase
The Class of 2026 graduating cohort from the University of Chester’s BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Marketing programme celebrated the launch of its inaugural virtual magazine, The Scene, at a graduate showcase attended by more than 120 guests.
Held at Opera Bar & Grill in Chester, the event brought together industry professionals, creatives, alumni, family members and supporters to recognise the achievements of the programme’s 18 graduating students as they prepare to embark on careers within the fashion and creative industries.
Guests were invited to explore an innovative collection of final major projects, original fashion films and personal brands, demonstrating the breadth of talent across fashion communication, branding, public relations, editorial publishing, styling, creative direction, photography and digital marketing.
A highlight of the evening was the launch of The Scene @thescene204, a virtual publication conceived and produced entirely by the graduating cohort. The magazine features original editorial content, fashion campaigns and creative storytelling that reflects the students’ diverse creative perspectives and professional aspirations.
The showcase also demonstrated the distinctive nature of the University of Chester’s BA (Hons) Fashion Communication and Marketing programme, which is the only course of its kind in the UK to offer a full honours degree in two years. Designed to combine accelerated academic study with extensive industry engagement, the programme gives students opportunities to work on live creative briefs, collaborate with brands and build professional networks throughout their studies.
Throughout the programme, students work collectively as Studio 204: The Creative Agency, mirroring the structure and operation of a professional creative agency. This collaborative, industry-focused approach enables students to develop both creative and professional skills in a real-world environment.
Every aspect of the graduate showcase was conceived, planned and delivered by the students. Working in specialist teams spanning project management, event production, public relations, branding, marketing, social media, editorial publishing and creative direction, the students were responsible for bringing the event from concept to completion.
The showcase marked the culmination of two years of intensive creative development, industry engagement and collaborative practice, celebrating both the students’ final body of work and a course designed to bridge the gap between higher education and industry.
As the Class of 2026 moves into the next stage of their professional journeys, Studio 204 continues to demonstrate the value of industry-led education, innovation and creative collaboration, providing students with opportunities to thrive in a professional agency-style environment from the very start of their studies.
Speaking on behalf of the Studio 204 Project Management Team, Project Manager Ava Hodson said: “As the Class of 2026, we wanted to create a launch night that celebrates innovation, creativity and the unique identity of every individual preparing to enter the fashion and creative industries. Hosting the event at Opera Bar & Grill provided the perfect setting to showcase our final major projects, launch our new virtual magazine, The Scene, and premiere our original fashion films.
“More than anything, the evening celebrated the journey of Studio 204: The Creative Agency and the legacy of the Class of 2026 as we take our first steps into industry together.”
Tracey Hall, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader for Fashion Communication and Marketing at the University of Chester, added: “The launch of The Scene and the success of this graduate showcase are a testament to the talent, professionalism and determination of our Class of 2026 students. What makes this programme unique is its strong emphasis on industry engagement and real-world learning, enabling students to gain invaluable experience while developing their individual creative identities.
“Watching our graduates lead every aspect of this event, from strategic planning and marketing to creative production and editorial publishing, has been incredibly rewarding. They are leaving the University not only with strong academic credentials but with the confidence, industry insight and collaborative skills needed to make a meaningful impact within the fashion and creative sectors.”
