Free events focusing on support for families of SEND students to take place at University

The events – one in-person at the Exton Park campus, the other online – are focused on the legal duties and practical challenges faced by parents and guardians supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

The 90-minute in-person workshop will begin at 10am, with the 90-minute online workshop beginning at 7pm, both on June 11.

During the workshop, there will be a discussion on the practical implications of recent case law, the Equality Act, and schools’ obligations in relation to compliance, evidence, and decision-making.

It will be hosted by Dr John Morrow, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Chester with a particular focus on Education Law for pupils with SEND.

Topics will include:

• The Equality Act 2010 
• Reasonable adjustments 
• Section 15: discrimination arising from disability 
• The combined legal obligations relating to suspension and exclusion, including important case law EHCPs and duties on schools
• The relationship between EHCP duties and the reasonable adjustments duty
• Recent case law updates
• Scenario-based discussion and interactive examples
