Senior Lecturer

Biography
Dr Bethan Stallwood is a Senior Lecturer in Microbial Ecology and Biotechnology. Bethan is the course leader for the MSc Biotechnology.
Teaching and Supervision
Bethan teaches across a number of postgraduate modules including Biotechnological Approaches to Sustainable Development Goals, Research Methods and Applied Molecular Biology. Bethan's pedagogical interests are in project based learning, and developing teaching methods to enable independent thought.
Research and Knowledge Exchange
Bethan's current research interests are in understanding differences in microbial populations in different ecosystems, and what the differences mean in terms of the health of the ecosystem. Bethan is leading research into understanding microbiomes, including the fate of antimicrobial resistance genes, in wildlife. Bethan uses Nanopore sequences, gene expression analysis and traditional microbiology to gain an insight into microbial population changes. Bethan is a recent recipient of two research grants.
