The University’s Citizen Student Strategy outlines our ambition to deliver a premium, personalised and purposeful student experience. Our Student Engagement Plan sets out how we aim to fully embed the concept of the Citizen Student so that all our students feel empowered to contribute in shaping their education and experience.

Students as Partners
We aim to move beyond just listening to students and responding to their feedback, towards a culture where students can identify their concerns and priorities and contribute to solutions. As partners, students are invited to co-create curriculum and assessment, engage with initiatives and projects and deliver impactful change as engaged citizens of our University community.
Inclusion
The University Access and Participation Plan 2024-25 to 2027-28 underlines our commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive student community, whereby students from all identities, ethnicities, faiths and backgrounds, both disabled and non-disabled, are supported to access and participate fully in University life.
Social Capital
As a key principle of our Citizen Student Strategy, we want to make opportunities available to every student and our graduate community to help build their social capital. This means supporting our students to develop networks and relationships; develop confidence; learn about cultures and challenges within society; link academic learning to the real world and progress to successful futures.
Engagement Ready Students
We want to ensure that our students are ready to engage fully with their University of Chester experience from the very outset of their studies. We need to provide a diverse array of opportunities for students that challenge, inspire and motivate, alongside a comprehensive package of support.
Staff Supporting Engagement
A whole-university approach to student engagement requires strong staff engagement. We need to ensure that key student-facing roles are visible and valued and that students are fully aware of our specialist professional staff.
Student Voice and Communications
We must ensure that our student voice structures allow for diverse student input at all levels, and that our student communications have the widest possible reach recognising the ways in which our students prefer to communicate.
Systems and Processes to Embed Engagement
We must embed a systematic approach to student engagement across the University that is evidence-based and allows for early intervention and support that contributes to student success.
Celebrating success and promoting innovation
We want to celebrate student engagement across the University and recognise the achievements of staff and students. We already have a great deal of best practice and want to promote creative thinking and new ideas.
