Dr Janey Deng Klingelfuss

Biography

With a background in higher education design management, design knowledge transfer, visual communication, and academic research skills provision, Dr. Janey Klingelfuss is actively engaged in research, teaching, and learning within a cross-national, cross-institutional, and interdisciplinary practical environment. She is passionate about working across cultures and is particularly interested in exploring issues related to cultural influence and academic adaptation. Teaching and Supervision

Dr. Janey Klingelfuss joined the graphic design team at University of Chester in Sept. 2020. Previously, she worked at the University of Central Lancashire, UK; as well as Staffordshire University, UK. Her teaching modules cover design related skills and technology, visual communication, branding, design process, design thinking, design management and production, and design research methodology, design entrepreneurship, design professional practice, as well as design leadership and futures, at both UG and PG levels. She has been actively involved in all aspects of T&L, from award administration, validation and moderation, and management at different levels, e.g., course/ modules/ teaching and learning. She has been in related academic positions in planning, organising and managing resources in the past few years, and, she has provided academic and pastoral support to large numbers of home and international students operating in a UK HE environment. University of Chester (09/20---) Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design She teaches design communication, design process, branding, design management, and production. She is also the module leader for Design Management and Production. Additionally, she supervises PhD research on design management in the digital industry. London College of Communication, University of the Arts London (12/20--) Associate Lecturer in MA/BA Design Management She leads and delivers Design Leadership and Futures Unit. She is also a moderator for BA (Hons) Design Management units. University of Central Lancashire Course Leader for BA(Hons) Advertising; BA(Hons) Graphic Design; Senior Lecturer; HBU-UCLan She was the course leader for both BA(Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Advertising, at HBU-UCLan; School of Media, Communication & Creative Industries. In this role, she acted as academic lead for a team of staff; managed course curricula, as well as taught the core elements of the programme. Staffordshire University, the UK Research Fellow in UOR/PhD Researcher in Design Management/ international Partnership She worked to develop the growth of social entrepreneurs through sharing innovation, knowledge exchange, network development, training and development, peer learning, access to expertise and investment readiness. She played a key role for BA(Hons) Design Management course, which was later recognised as a 'National Key Developing Discipline' by the Ministry of Education, China, in 2020.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Dr. Janey Klingelfuss is passionate about working across cultures and is particularly interested in exploring issues around cultural influence and academic adaptation. Her PhD research explored the transferability of higher education (HE) in design management knowledge, curricula, and teaching and learning strategies. As a research fellow since 2006, she has developed extensive experience in initiating and developing successful research and funding applications, including projects on design management knowledge transfer, design thinking, HE in art and design within cultural boundaries, curriculum design, teaching and learning strategies, and the role of design in business and eco-social justice. Currently, she is working on projects that construct different approaches to real-world issues, employing design thinking in a wider community context. She collaborates with a design research and design practice team, conducting applied and theoretical research into art and design and related multidisciplinary fields, focusing on people, places, and their interactions. As part of the “Knowledge Exchange”, she is involved in initiatives such as the International Symposium on "Reputation and Cultural Value in Design Soft Power” in the summer of 2022 and, the “Reflections Programme” in 2024.
