Lucy Irvine
Programme Leader - Creative Industries, Humanities
Lucy is Programme Leader for the Creative Industries and Humanities Foundation routes and is a member of the Foundation Year Network.
I have been teaching at the Centre for Foundation Studies for six years, and programme lead our Creative Industries and Humanities routes. I originally trained as a graphic designer by doing a BA in Visual Communication, which led to a career in advertising and media production. Later, I returned to the classroom to complete a Master’s degree in Teaching for Creative Industries, supporting my move into lecturing. I have been lecturing for twelve years in further education, higher education and apprenticeships.
Having studied as a mature student myself, and with experience across several education sectors, I am a firm supporter of lifelong learning. I’ve experienced the many challenges and rewards of studying alongside life’s other commitments, and bring this experience to my lecturing role.
The Creative Industries and Humanities foundation years are a great introduction into higher education, whether you are joining from school or college, or have worked in a different field. The modules we teach merge theory and practice, and students are provided with the opportunity to develop skills in their specialist areas. The benefits are both academic and social, as we are part of a very active undergraduate community across the Chester campus.
