To ensure a smooth and successful start at the University of Chester, there are a few essential tasks you’ll need to complete in advance.

1. Book Accommodation

If you're moving to Chester to begin your studies, it's important to secure your accommodation before you arriveInternational students must ensure accommodation is arranged before travelling to the UK.  For full details on how to apply, please visit the University of Chester Accommodation page.

2. Complete Enrolment

Enrolment is the process by which you officially become a student at the University of Chester. To fully enrol, you must complete both Stage 1 and Stage 2:

  • Stage 1 – Online Enrolment (Complete before you arrive)
    This involves verifying your personal details and confirming your place. It's essential that you complete Stage 1 before you arrive. You’ll receive a “Welcome to UoC” email with your Student ID number and full instructions on how to begin. Be sure to keep an eye on the email address you used in your application.
  • Stage 2 – In-Person Enrolment (Complete after you arrive)
    This stage includes collecting your Student ID Card and lanyard, which finalises your enrolment.

3. Upload Your Photo

Before you arrive, you need to upload a passport-style photo for your student ID card. Your student ID card grants you access to our buildings and must always be worn at our sites. The uploaded photo will also be added to your student record.

4. Pay your fees

If you’re receiving funding from the Student Loans Company, you won’t need to pay any fees yourself.  For international students and those self-funding their studies, more information is available on our Payment Options page.

5. Register With a GP

Once you’ve accepted your accommodation offer and have your term-time address, we recommend registering with a GP in Chester. This ensures you have full access to medical care during your time living and studying here.

It's best to wait until just before arrive to complete your registration, so you remain covered by your current GP in the meantime.

6. Access Your Student Email Account

PGR Induction will take place this year on the 14th and 15th October in Chester. Further details, including a full itinerary, will be sent to your student email address.

7. Download the UoC App

 The UoC app is an essential download for your time at the University. You’ll need it to check into lectures, access your timetable, discover the latest events and much more.   

You can log in using the University login details included in your Welcome Email.

8. Make Your First Appointment With Your Supervisor

MPhil/PhD research students should arrange a meeting with their supervisor as soon as possible. MRes and Professional Doctorate Students should make contact with their programme leader to ensure they have access to all online line materials and know when any face-to-face sessions are scheduled to take place.

9. View Your Timetable

Your timetable will be available on the UoC App from 1st September.  Information on how to do this and further information about timetabling is available on our website. 

10. Access Your Student Email Account

As a University of Chester student, you will have a dedicated student email address and inbox. Your student email address is in the format of studentnumber@chester.ac.uk

11. Download the UoC app

The app displays your timetable, deadlines, alerts, and more on one page. Download it after you have completed online enrolment
