Expert Explains: The Social Lives of Bats

Did you know that bats can form friendships, recognise each other and even communicate through social calls?

In this episode of Expert Explains, Amber Brocklehurst is joined by Dr Christina Stanley, Associate Professor in Animal Behaviour and Welfare at the University of Chester, to uncover the fascinating social lives of bats.

From the tiny lesser horseshoe bat found in North Wales to the extraordinary relationships formed by vampire bats, Christina explores how these remarkable mammals interact, communicate and survive.

Discover why bats are so important to our environment, how human activity and light pollution affect their behaviour, and the surprising truth behind some of the biggest myths about bats.

We also explore Christina's research into bat communication and conservation, including projects investigating the bats living around the University of Chester's campuses.

Christina is the editor of *The Social Lives of Bats: From Roosting Rituals to Dinner Dates*, bringing together fascinating research from bat scientists around the world.
