New Guide for Teachers book by University of Chester expert focuses on understanding Judaism
A Religious Studies expert at the University of Chester has written a new book exploring the beliefs and practices of Judaism as a lived religion in the United Kingdom, as well as addressing issues of representation.
Dr James Holt, Associate Professor of Religious Education at the University, is behind the new book, Understanding Judaism: A Guide for Teachers, which will be published by Bloomsbury on April 30.
The book engages with Jewish beliefs and practices, including the concepts that form the central beliefs of Judaism and the expression of these beliefs in worship and daily life. It uses the authentic voices of practising Jews to highlight differences in the ways Judaism is understood and lived in different circumstances.
Aimed at students and qualified teachers, each chapter allows the reader to consider the concepts and how they can be taught in the classroom. James also provides suggestions for activities that could be used in the classroom to help others to understand the richness and vibrancy of Judaism.

Understanding Judaism is the latest in the Guide for Teachers series written by James, with other titles focusing on Understanding Buddhism, Understanding Hinduism and Understanding Sikhism.
